SUNDAY 2nd DECEMBER ~ A TRIBUTE TO THE HEROES OF SOUL AND GOSPEL FEATURING CLEVE (REV CHUNKY) FRECKLETON ‘S CHUNKY BUTT FUNKY
Well folks, the festive season is soon to be upon us and what better way to get in the spirit than a soulful session of Gospel tinged music from a band featuring one of the best loved voices on the British soul scene, Cleve “Rev Chunky” Freckleton and Chunky Butt Funky.

The band are the most in demand outfit in Leeds and you may have seen them playing at one of the many live music venues in the Area though they have played and toured the World, including Africa, Central America, Europe, Asia and the U.S.A

His years as a Preacher in the U.S.A gave him the same musical inspiration as his heroes like Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, Solomon Burke and, of course James Brown.

The usual format applies, doors 7.30 p.m , a memorable Italian supper with a great pasta dish followed by something cooked low and slow in the oven finished with coffee and soft almond biscuits Then a hour or so of live music. Praise the Lord and pass the peas.

Ticket includes supper £25.00 per person

This is ticket only on a first come first served basis so please call 0113 2755017 for reservations or use our online reservation form.

SUNDAY 18th NOVEMBER ~ RHIANNA KENNY LIVE ACOUSTIC SHOWCASE

A live acoustic set from lovely Leeds lass Rhianna Kenny and her guitarist Nick Svarc. This soulful singer songwriter launched her career at 18 with a top 20 hit, Oh Baby, and the album Get On, released on Sony.

Musically her influences range from Billy Holiday to Fleetwood Mac via Kate Bush and to these old ears she comes across as a cross between Minnie Ripperton and Joni Mitchell with a beautiful crystalline voice and gentle lilting melodies of love and yearning.

She has sung in her brother Lee’s acclaimed band L.S.K as well as on 2 tracks on the forthcoming Ian Brown (Stone Roses) album, supported Destiny’s Child as well as opening for Jamiroqui at the Budokan , Tokyo and when not touring with Faithless as backing singer she now gigs as Fleurona to avoid confusion with the American pop diva who shares her name.

Most importantly she is another Leeds Talent we need to nurture so we are really proud to feature her at Salvo’s on her return from gigs in New York. Not the usual Salvo’s jazz supper gig then but a quieter soulful folky affair with the usual limited tickets.

SUNDAY 29th APRIL~ THE LEWIS EXPRESS
Footstomping Soul Jazz. Influenced by Ramsey Lewis, Les McCann and Gene Harris

SUNDAY 25th MARCH ~ A KIND OF BLUE
A tribute to Miles Davis featuring the Malcolm Strachan Quintet

Our season of great live jazz sessions continued with one of our favourite musicians in Leeds, the irrepressible and incredibly talented trumpeter Malcolm Strachan. Currently on tour with Corrine Bailey Rae and busy promoting the new single by The Haggis Horns, a blistering funk/soul jazz outfit he blows for, he joined us on Sunday 25 March with his Quintet for an evening celebrating the music and influence of Miles Davis, one of the true originators who, along with Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Trane and Charlie Mingus, defined the sound of Modern Jazz. So……..an evening of bebop, ballads, good food, wine and company awaits the lucky few.

SUNDAY 21st JANUARY ~ EDDIE ROBERTS QUINTET

Following the release of his last 2 solo albums, Trenta, the album he recorded for Salvo's, finally got its official release in January 2007 (in Europe on Salvo’s Records and Japan on P.Vine).

REVIEW: EDDIE ROBERTS QUINTET LIVE AT SALVO'S

We kicked off our new season of gigs at the sporadic Salvos jazz club with the launch of our c.d ‘Trenta’ and a live session featuring the Eddie Roberts Quintet.

After supper the audience settled down with their drinks and the band started with an up-tempo Brazilian flavoured track ‘chillu e nu buono guaglione’, the opening track on the album and the hour long set featured half a dozen more tracks from the c.d interspersed with a few original compositions from Eddies ‘Roughneck’ album. Malcolm Strachan on trumpet played a blinder and solos by the very funky Bill Laurance on keys and Eddie Roberts on guitar rocked Salvos from the wine room to the kitchen and back. With the solid rhythm section of Neil Innes on double bass and drummer Gordon Kilroy providing that very funky jazz groove, the only thing missing at Salvos on the night was a dance floor.

The night was a bit of a charity do to raise money to send a friend of ours, a little boy called Thiago Taylor who suffers from Autism, to the U.S.A for specialist treatment. Our generous gang of customers, staff and friends raised a total of  £1350 on the night, a fantastic achievement . Dad Mark was at the show and was truly touched by everybody’s generosity.
