Experience Wall to Wall Southern Italian Hospitality at our Puglia Regional Dinner Evening! This hot  southern region , which runs from the “ spur” down to the bottom of the heel of the Italian “boot” is also known as “ il granaio d’Italia” ( the vegetable garden of Italy). This is because most of Puglia is a flat plain , with vast acreages given over to grains vegetables and fruit. Most of the grain is hard durum wheat used to make some of Italy’s best pasta  and bread.

The beautiful landscape consists of endless plantations of green olive trees, huge golden wheat fields and serried ranks of vines producing a welter of wines many of which are not often seen outside of Italy. Amongst this landscape, specially around Alberobello and Martina Franca in the Valle d’Itria, there are strange circular buildings  with conical roofs – painted white and immaculately kept. Constructed from lose stones, these ancient buildings are Trulli , in which farmers house their cattle. They are really are quite spectacular and many foreigners have fallen for the charm and beauty of them and are buying up these Trulli to convert into homes. My English mother in law Kate , in fact is one of the many English to have fallen for the charms of the region and bought herself a Trulli she is converting. I was out visiting her recently whilst also doing a gastronomical fact finding tour of the area and I could easily see why people fall for its charms. I enjoyed some truly amazing Puglian food in the interest of research for this evening. The things I have to do. In this link you will find further details of my exploits in Puglia.

On our Puglian Regional Evenings we aim to bring a little bit of Puglia to you right here in Salvo’s Salumeria. Buon Appetito.
