SALVO'S SELLS ARTWORKS AS PART OF 30TH ANNIVERSARY REVAMP

Yorkshire Evening Post 21st February 2006

Diners can pick up a painting with pasta and take home a piece of their favourite restaurant. Salvo’s , at Otley Road , Headingley , is selling off its bespoke artwork by renowned local artist Pippa Hale to make way for a fresh collection after its forthcoming makeover. The revamp, costing more than £100,000, is part of the restaurant’s 30th anniversary celebrations. Gip Dammone, who owns the restaurant with his brother John, said; “The artwork provides a nice little reminder for people who have a soft spot for Salvo’s. We’ve sold a few already and it’s regular customers that are buying them which is nice”

The specially commissioned works will be replaced by pictures that celebrate the history of the family behind the successful restaurant which their dad Salvatore Dammone opened in 1976.

Gip said” All our relatives have sent us pictures of the family from the 1960’s and we have put them all onto canvas. They include pictures of my mum and dad in Rome in the early 50’s. They will go on show in early March when the restaurant re opens after its transformation. The revamp will include new tables and chairs, a new frontage and canopies outside.

Other treats to mark the anniversary include a CD of jazz performed by local musicians and a thirtieth Anniversary Dinner in May.

Salvo’s has previously displayed artwork by A- Level students from Leeds Grammar School. The popular pieces earned their teenage creators some impressive sums when they were sold online afterwards.
