TOP TABLE - SALVO'S

The Italian Magazine October 2006

History: Opened in 1976 by Salvatore Dammone, Salvo’s is now in it’s 30th year as a buzzing family – run restaurant serving huge portions of traditional and more contemporary Italian cuisine. Two years ago the family opened a Salumeria ( Italian delicatessen ) a couple of doors down the road.

The Look: Smart but informal terracotta and wood with warm red walls.

Typical Dish: Slow cooked chicken braciole cacciatore (free range chicken rolled and stuffed with Italian sausage, sage and garlic, wrapped in pancetta and served with a mushroom sauce).

Cost: Very reasonable. Antipasti from £3.95, secondi paittti from £10.95 and pasta/pizza from £7.25.

Why Visit: For a truly authentic Italian experience, book a place at one of the regional dinner parties taking place in the salumeria every Saturday. You’ll be treated to a 10 course tasting menu from a particular Italian area for £27.50 a head.
