Opened in 1976 by Salvatore Dammone, Salvo’s is now in it’s 30th year as a buzzing family – run restaurant serving huge portions of traditional and more contemporary Italian cuisine. Two years ago the family opened a Salumeria ( Italian delicatessen ) a couple of doors down the road.
Smart but informal terracotta and wood with warm red walls.
Slow cooked chicken braciole cacciatore (free range chicken rolled and stuffed with Italian sausage, sage and garlic, wrapped in pancetta and served with a mushroom sauce).
Very reasonable. Antipasti from £3.95, secondi paittti from £10.95 and pasta/pizza from £7.25.
For a truly authentic Italian experience, book a place at one of the regional dinner parties taking place in the salumeria every Saturday. You’ll be treated to a 10 course tasting menu from a particular Italian area for £27.50 a head.
