This Salumeria and café is essentially an outpost, though a not too far flung one since the original is just a couple of doors down. The idea here is to provide a daytime rallying point for all those who love the Salvo’s food they’ve already enjoyed after dark.
The menu includes a dozen or so delectable hot dishes and just about every sandwich imaginable all made with the freshest most traditional ingredients every self-respecting Italian should boast.
We had the baked aubergine and veal meatballs with past and both were out of this world and a fair price at around £5 a throw.
Even with coffee – great coffee – a pastry and a couple of drinks, the bill was only £18. We left stuffed and feeling totally indulged by the celestial experience of sampling the kind of cuisine you’d expect to find in Florence not Far Headingley.
Otley Road may seem like an unlikely spot but, in warmer months, perching on a table outside is a delight, the perfect place to kick back and watch the world pass by.
This café has yet to gain a huge profile but it richly deserves one. So if you haven’t tried the place already then you have to find out what you’ve been missing.
